Job Description:
About Dataro:
Dataro is an AI-driven fundraising platform built specifically for nonprofits. Founded in Sydney in 2017, they help charities turn dormant donor data into smart, targeted fundraising action, across acquisition, retention, and stewardship.
Dataro's ML platform powers fundraising for not-for-profits worldwide, helping them raise more, waste less, and do more good. Every hour our systems are unreliable is an hour a charity's campaign isn't running at its best. That's what you're here to own.
The Mission:
We need an SRE who treats uptime, performance, and incident response as a craft, not a checklist. You'll have real ownership over production reliability across our full stack (React, Python, AWS), with the autonomy to shape how observability, on-call, and incident response work as we scale.
What You'll Own:
You'll take end-to-end responsibility for the reliability, availability, and performance of Dataro's production systems. That means building observability from the ground up, metrics, logging, tracing, alerting, SLOs and error budgets, so problems surface before they become incidents.
When they don't, you'll lead the response: triage, resolution, blameless postmortems, and follow-through on fixes. You'll weigh in on architecture decisions around scaling, resilience, and disaster recovery, and you'll be constantly looking for manual toil to automate away, using modern AI-assisted tooling where it helps.
Reliability won't be something bolted on after the fact, you'll have a seat at the table with engineering, product, and data science to keep it part of the conversation from the start. And when a fix lives in the codebase itself, you'll get hands-on there too, across both the Python backend and React frontend.
What you'll bring:
You'll bring experience in SRE, DevOps, or platform engineering, with hands-on AWS experience that's genuinely non-negotiable.
You'll have real full-stack range across React and Python, enough to read, debug, and ship fixes in both when needed, along with experience in serverless architectures (Lambda, Serverless Framework) and containerisation with Docker.
Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform, CDK, or similar) is expected, as is a solid track record of owning production services and handling pressure under real incidents.
You're comfortable with SQL and relational databases, fluent with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing, and, just as importantly, you communicate clearly across disciplines. This isn't a heads-down role.
Why This Role:
* Small, high-calibre team. Real autonomy, real stakes, real mission. Modern stack.
* We want engineers who understand systems deeply and aren't precious about using AI tools to move faster.
* Flexible WFH + Sydney office.
* $1,000/yr professional development budget.
* 3 days paid volunteering leave.
If reliability is your craft and you want it in service of something that matters, apply.
